BEHIND THE LENS
For the longest time, I defined myself by as book smart. And perhaps a little street smart. Certainly not creative. My world revolved around math, numbers, structure and spreadsheets.
After a cloistered childhood where I truly went nowhere, once I started marveling at the world through what turned out to be frequent travels, I wanted to keep a record of all the new beautiful places I had the luck to see.
That's when I first picked up a camera. My pictures had the purpose of recording history. They weren't meant to be artistic. But after hearing long and often enough that my pictures had merit, I started to believe that maybe there was a creative side to me too.
When I wrote my book, Leaving Shangrila, I did again because of a calling to tell my story - but it turns out that learning how to write, and how to write well, was a journey all in itself, which enhanced my life tremendously.
Isabelle Gecils Creative was born from a desire to continue nurture that creative side of me, while I also focus on my geeky nature through my professional side, working to solve the intractable problem of climate change.
I am lucky to live in Saratoga, CA with my handsome husband, our four sons and our pets.
